Five Great Europe Deals

On the travel seesaw, timing a trip to Europe is all about upsides and downsides. Go during the warm summer months and you’ll pay a high price for the privilege. But if you’re willing to embrace chilly weather and shorter days, your wallet will appreciate the upside of travel in fall and winter. We’ve chosen from among the many (really, many) air-and-hotel packages currently out there to bring you these five great deals to Europe for travel in the coming months.

Prague

Virgin Vacations, one of the big players in the Europe air-and-hotel package space, is offering a four-night Prague package with airfare from New York City, from $649 per person. Prices actually vary quite a bit by departure date, ranging from $999 if you want to go for New Year’s to the $649 lowest price in mid-February or mid-March. The cost includes airline fuel surcharges and daily breakfast, but not airport taxes and fees, which came to about $125 on the lowest-priced package. The baseline hotel offered is the Ibis Praha Mala Strana, which TripAdvisor users give a respectable rating of four out of five. However, other hotels are available for an additional fee.

Rome

Heavyweight air-and-hotel package provider Go-Today is featuring a six-night, air-and-hotel package to Rome from $899 per person. The price includes round-trip airfare (but not flight taxes and fees), six nights’ accommodations (including hotel taxes, but not city taxes, which must be paid to the hotel at check-out), and daily Continental breakfast. The lowest price of $899 is available for dates in November, early December, January, and February on departures from New York City. Dozens of other departure cities are also available for an additional cost. For instance, a round-trip flight from San Francisco adds $203 onto the base price.

Barcelona

1-800-Fly-Europe has a whole gaggle of Thanksgiving deals from departure cities around the U.S. to eight different European destinations. Among the offers, all which must be booked by October 31, is a three-night air-and-hotel package between Los Angeles and Barcelona from $977 per person. The deal includes round-trip economy airfare, airline fuel surcharges (but not additional taxes and fees), and three nights’ accommodations at a three-star, centrally located hotel. For this and all the other Thanksgiving specials, departure flights must fall between November 20 and 25, and return flights must be between November 25 and 30.

Paris and London

Six days and two cities is the proposed itinerary for Go-Today’s Paris and London package, with rates from $949 per person. The offer includes round-trip airfare from the U.S. (flight taxes and fees aren’t included in the base price), three nights’ accommodations in London, a continuing flight between the two cities, three nights’ accommodations in Paris, daily Continental breakfast, and hotel taxes and service charges. The lowest price of $949 is available throughout November and early December, and again throughout January and February for flights from New York City. Dozens of other departure cities in the U.S. and Canada are available for a higher price; for instance, airfare from Chicago added an additional $74 onto the base price.

Dublin

Orbitz has Dublin air-and-hotel packages on sale for trips through December 17. Among those advertised at press time was a package starting at $758 per person that combined round-trip airfare and six nights’ accommodations at the Bewleys Hotel in Leopardstown (a suburb of Dublin known best for its horse racecourse). Pricing out a few sample dates in late November, we found a rate of $773 per person for the package from New York, or $961 per person from Houston. The nice thing about the Orbitz package price is that it already includes all the taxes.
