Gardermoen Transportation
Several travel options exist to get to and from Gardermoen Norway. Here are taxi, train, bus, and airport tips from travelers about Gardermoen transportation below.
Airport and Train Travel Tips
Gardermoen Airport (Airport Code: OSL) is the main international airport of Norway. A hub airport for SAS Scandinavian Airlines, the airport also is serviced by 27 other airlines from Aeroflot to Widerøe. Gardermoen Airport is not to be confused with Sandefjord/Torp Airport (Airport Code: TRP). The latter airport is a significant distance from Gardermoen; making a transfer between the two airports is time-consuming and not recommended.
To get to Oslo from Gardermoen Airport, you can use the train station at the airport. You have the choice between the “Flytoget,” a frequent, fast, and expensive train not covered by rail passes; or the NSB Federal Railways train, a slower and less expensive train covered by Eurail and Scanrail. The two trains have separate ticket counters and even separate monitors, so be sure not to confuse them. The express train comes every 10 minutes and takes 20 minutes to reach the Oslo Central Station at 210 kilometers per hour. The ordinary railway takes twice the time at 40 minutes and commonly runs into delays, but is nearly half the price of the express train.
Tips On the Road
In addition to the trains, an Airport Bus departs every 15 minutes for Oslo with a travel time of 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic. The airport coach “SAS Flybussen” is a great way to travel to and from the airport. The coaches are online with the airline computers and know if SAS flights are delayed. Group discounts and affordable prices for children and retired persons are available.
Taxis are a possibility but can be quite frustrating. Never get into a taxi before you know the price. The taxi companies operate with different prices, and are more expensive with more people in the car, at nights, and during public holidays. Buses and trains are typically better. If you have no other solution than a taxi from the airport, go to the taxi information desk in the arrival hall. They have information about the different companies’ fixed rates to different destinations in Norway and can book a taxi for you.
Five different car rental companies operate at Oslo Airport. The companies are all located in the arrival hall, on the west side towards the railway station.
