Chiang Mai Transportation
Known for its incredible food, rich culture, and inviting locals, Chiang Mai is well established as a popular tourist destination. Here are some tips to help you see all the sights with ease.
Taxi
Chiang Mai has both individual taxi’s and taxi companies. Taxi companies have the most reliable rate. If you’re not in a rush to get to your hotel, you may consider saving some money and sharing a minibus that holds 10. The minibus drives all over the city dropping people off at their destinations and would be a great way to see some sights before reaching the hotel.
Hire a Driver
You may hire a professional guide to drive you while in Chiang Mai. The driver will help you decide what to see, where to stop and more importantly – what to skip.
Bike or Scooter
Another option is to rent scooter or bicycles to tour the city. It may be less expensive, easier to find parking and possibly easier to get around and ask for directions.
Sing a Song on a Songtaew
A songtaew is a red pick-up truck with a covered hood. Some people just hop on and knock on the glass or roof to signal a stop. Some have stop buttons. This is the cheapest way to get around the city.
Take a Cable Car
If you doubt your fitness but badly want to visit Wat Doe Suthep, which can be visited after climbing up about 300 plus steps, you can buy a ticket on a cable car.
