Driving Your Own Vehicle vs. Hiring a Vehicle
It’s possible to reach Naran and the Kaghan Valley area from the city of Mansehra by taking Naran Road.
Generally speaking, it’s much more convenient to get around and to reach in Naran if you have your own vehicl. Mansehra is the nearest city to Naran. Mansehra is located approximately 120 kilometers from Naran, and the car journey between these two destinations takes just over three hours.
However, many travelers will find it more practical to hire a vehicle in one of Pakistan’s larger cities. In Pakistan, car hire is available from major airports in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and more. Islamabad is the closest major city to Naran. From Islamabad, Naran is about 250 kilometers and a six-hour drive by car. Mansehra makes a good halfway point for this drive.
If you’re driving your own car, it’s important to make note of the fact that petrol tends to be more expensive in Naran than it is in larger cities. It’s a good idea to fill up your tank in Mansehra before heading on to Naran. Also, beware of cattle along the roadways when you’re driving out in rural areas.
Taking a PTDC Bus
For bus service information to Naran, you can visit Pakistan’s tourism website and check the Khyber Paktunkhwa destinations page to find Naran. The bus to Naran leaves from Rawalpindi.
Taking a Coach
Alternatively, it’s possible to take a coach in Mansehra up to Balakot and then on to Naran. Check out Pirwadhai or Karachi bus companies to get you from a larger city like Karachi to Mansehra. Then, you can travel on to Mansehra on a bus or a private cab.
Getting Around Naran
Roads to scenic destinations around Naran, like Saiful Maluk and Salazar, tend to be rugged. Therefore, jeep hire is one of the only options for getting around.
Ideally, you will hire your own jeep and can handle the rugged roadways around Naran in your own private vehicle. You can reach Lulusar Lake by taking the Naran-Chillas Road.
