Hel, Poland, is located at the very end of a narrow pennisula across from major port cities on the Polish mainland. If you want to travel back and forth from the larger cities of Gdansk, Sopot or Gdynia to Hel, then you may want to consider taking the ferry, train or a bus.

Traveling by Ferry

The fastest and most efficient way to travel back and forth from Hel to the mainlaind is by water. The ferry (also known as the water tram) runs every day from June 21st to September 14th. You can get to and from any of the closest major port cities in about two to three hours, so you can stay on the mainland and make day or overnight trips to the peninsula. The trip itself is said to be very pleasant and enjoyable. During the winter, the winds make it difficult to travel this way.

Bus or Train

You can also visit Hel on the bus or train, but mostly during the warmer season between June and September. Take either mode of transportation from Gdynia, but buses can also be caught in Wladyslawowo. Enjoy the country scenery and small villages as they pass by on your ride into town. Several companies operate buses, and they run frequently enough to make it easy to get on and off and tour more of the peninsula. Make sure you check the schedules and arrive on time. During the most popular times, buses can get caught in heavy traffic, so a train may be faster option.
