Hotels and Resorts

Hikkaduwa, like most ocean towns, is lined with resorts and hotels. Tourists flock to Hikkaduwa’s shores to take in the views and relax on its beaches. Golden Sand Beach Hotel is a particularly popular place to stay. Situated on Galle Road and facing the beach, patrons can enjoy happy hour cocktails at sunset and watch surfers and sea gulls after a long day exploring the city. Most of the resorts and hotels host parties, so keep an eye on the newspapers and ask the front desk attendants at your hotel for a list of events happening while you’re in Hikkaduwa.

Restaurants and Bars

While the number of restaurants and bars may seem sparse compared to larger cities, Hikkaduwa has plenty of excellent places to eat and drink. Why Not Guesthouse & Restaurant, located on Narigama Beach, serves salads, sandwiches, fruit, burgers, omlettes, jaffles or toasties, a local favorite that’s similar to a grilled cheese sandwich or a panini. They also offer an extensive list of beer, liquor, and mixed drinks. Mambo’s Place off of Galle Road is another place you should visit while in town. Mambo’s is a favorite hangout of surfers in the area and hosts lively parties with a wide range of music, from reggae to electronic, house, and dub. Mambo’s Place is a great spot for younger tourists, especially those who like to dance and have a good time. If you’re traveling with young children, Mambo’s is fine for dinner, but may not be ideal for them later in the evening. Regardless of whether you’re traveling alone, with a large group, or you’re on a family vacation, Hikkaduwa will provide everyone on your trip with more than enough places to eat, drink, and have fun.
