We were looking for a sunny area in SWITZERLAND and finally ended up in its Italian part, the TICINO. And there we selected the region of the LAGO MAGGIORE, a beautiful lake with islands and interestig places on its shores, partly in Switzerland, partly in Italy. We did not want to stay where the masses go, that is ASCONA or LOCARNO. We selected SAN NAZZARO on the opposite side of the lake, the GAMBOROGNO.

San Nazzaro is a small village and does not offer much to be seen or done. It has a nice free pebble beach and the public baths for a dip in the lake, a beautiful botanic garden, a few restaurants, three hotels and a charming bed-and-breakfast pension, the VILLA SARNIA. This villa dates back to 1887, but has been entirely renovated in 2003, preserving its charm and elements of years ago. Some of the guest rooms have their own private fireplace, some have painted ceilings and some have both. All rooms have a shower and a balcony offering a splendid view on the lake. Rates are very reasonable, acutally a good buy. The owners take care personally of their guests.
