Hollywood is one of the iconic tourist destinations in the United States. One of the cultural hubs of the nation, it is the home to the film industry and much of the music industry. Hollywood Sign
The most iconic thing about Hollywood is definitely the Hollywood sign. It was first erected in the 1920’s was refurbished in the 1940’s. Today, it is made out of steel beams and each letter is 45 feet tall and they vary in width between 31-39 feet wide. There are many places around the city where you can get a good look at the sign. The immediate area around the sign is fenced off and secured, though, so you can’t get too close.
Universal Studios
Southern California is the king of amusement parks. One of the best ones is Universal Studios located right in Hollywood. Children and adults love this theme park because of the great rides and attractions based on some of the most famous movies produced by the studio. Universal Studios is responsible for some of the most impressive special effects in film history. This is something that is not lost when it comes to the design of their rides, specifically the Jaws ride. If you love amusement parks, Universal studios is a mandatory activity while experiencing Hollywood.
Check Out the Wax Museum
Those who love history and memorabilia love the wax museum. The wax statues of each person are extremely realistic, but they aren’t the best part of the museum. The historic costumes used by legendary celebrities in huge movies are the best part for many. It’s located right in the heart of Hollywood. There is an admission charge, but they offer specials all the time.
Hollywood Bowl
Live music fans love the Hollywood Bowl. It is a great place to visit whether you are going to see a concert or just visiting to check it out. It hosts music of all kinds including the L.A. Philharmonic. During the day, it is a great spot to visit with the family. They allow picnics in the park where you can enjoy a meal in the beautiful surroundings of the expansive amphitheater. The list of performers who have played there is a “who’s who” of music history.
Bus Tours and Walking Tours
There is so much to do in Hollywood that it can become overwhelming. This is why it is a great idea to take one of the guided tours offered in the area. There are walking tours and bus tours for those that like to relax when taking in the sites. The guides have an expansive knowledge of Hollywood and its amazing history.
