Inside Tips for Israeli Shopping
Though a small country, Israel is home to a wealth of history, great food, and shopping. Depending on the region you visit, your shopping list may vary. Keep reading to find out what to buy in each major shopping town in Israel.
Tel Aviv-Yafo
Tel Aviv is the metropolitan, beach hub of the country. Attracting many young residents and tourists, this city is the perfect place to find a gift to bring home. A walk through the open-air market, or “shuk,” will provide you with the region’s best produce, spices, shirts, and hand-crafted gifts.
Tzfat
The mystical town of Tzfat, home of Kabbalah and a notable artist colony, in the northern region of the country, makes shopping for your artsy or spiritual friend a piece of halvah. Tucked away in a cobblestone-paved road, dozens of artists sell paintings, jewelry, and hand-made Judaica pieces. You will have no problem finding unique menorahs, mezuzahs, or paintings of one of the country’s greatest gifts: the pomegranate.
Jerusalem
The religious center and capital of Israel, is Jerusalem. This is the place to do your shopping for unique, religious, and historic pieces that you are guaranteed to not find elsewhere. Jerusalem is also home to it’s own open-air markets or “shuks,” however, gifts and religious memorabilia can be found sold by small vendors in the old city as well.
Despite the region you find yourself in, finding shopping in Israel should not take long. Being the diverse country it is demographically, geographically, and culturally, the shopping genuinely mirrors this trend and makes the experience of browsing for gifts and strolling through marketplaces all the more fascinating.
