Ko Samet Transportation
Ko Samet is an island in Thailand that draws thousands of tourists to its shores. With so many visitors, it’s no surprise that a well-developed transportation network connects the island to the rest of the country.
Traveling by Boat
The ferry to Samet leaves every day from the Ban Phe Pier, Rayong. Departures begin at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m. The boats that depart from Ban Phe will also dock at a resort in Ao Prao. Along the way, visitors can stop at Laem Noi Na, which is on the northern side of the island. Boats also depart from Ban Phe to Vong Duen three times a day through the Samet Island booking company.
Visitors who don’t want to wait for the traditional boat service can hire a speedboat, although this is a less affordable option.
Traveling by Bus
Visitors to Bangkok can catch an air-con bus to Banpe Pier from the Ekamai or Morchit Bus Stations. The fare is affordable, though the trip can take between three to four hours to complete.
Travel by private car is more expensive, but also faster, with the average trip to Ban Phe taking about two and a half hours. The highways connecting the cities and towns are generally in good condition, although be prepared to face heavy traffic depending on what hour you depart Bangkok.
Conveniently, boat tickets can be bought from the bus station prior to departure. However, you can also buy your tickets once you arrive at the pier.
