Lahore Travel Guide

Lahore is the capital city of the Province of Punjab in Pakistan. Lahore is the second largest populous city in Pakistan and home to some amazing sites. Below, we have compiled a short travel guide of must see things while visiting Lahore, Pakistan.

Shahi Qila – Lahore Fort

A UNESCO World Heritage site, Lahore Fort was built about 1,000 years ago. The modern day fort that tourists see today was completed in 1566 by Mughal Emperor Akbar. Additions to the fort including the palace and Sheesh Mahal were added to the fort in later years. Inside the fort there is a museum visitors can tour. Tourists are welcome to see the gardens, fountains, baths, and retiring rooms which were all created in the Mughal period. Located in front of Budshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort is easily accessible by the main bus stand.

Jahangir’s Tomb

Emperor Jahangir lived from 1569-1627 and his tomb exhibits traditional Mughal architecture. The tomb is located in Dilkusha Garden on the bank of the River Ravi. The tomb itself is a single story square building designed in the square garden style. Octagonal minarets adorn each corner of the tomb. Jahangir’s tomb is part of a large 100 acre complex that also includes Akbari Serai and Asif Jah’s tomb as well.  The tomb is located near Shahdara Town underpass.

Mosque of Wazir Khan

The mosque is located in the Old City close to the Dehli Gate. Wazir Khan, the governor of Lahore, built the Mosque between 1634 and 1641. The mosque is famous for its tile work that adorns the interior and exterior alike. Four minarets are at each corner rising 107 feet into the air and are decorated with mosaics. In the courtyard, visitors can also see the tomb of the Saint Syed Muhammad Ishaq.
