Los Angeles appeals to travelers with its movie-star glitz, expansive beaches, and famed nightlife. Just as attractive, however, is the Los Angeles shopping scene, which covers everything from designer clothes to electronics and artisan foods.

Rodeo Drive
A leisurely stroll along Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is a must; the sidewalks are generously dusted with the most elegant and exclusive shops in the world. Many celebrated clothing designers have boutiques here, including Armani, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Gucci. If you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it. But there’s no charge to gawk at the high-end window displays—or at the rich and famous walking their pedigreed pooches or driving Lamborghinis down this famous street.
Farmers Market
Don’t miss the chance to meander through the shops and stalls of the Farmers Market on Fairfax Avenue and West Third Street, where produce and other edibles seem jam-packed into every space. (There’s even a dog bakery!) You might catch a glimpse of movie stars or studio execs grabbing a quick power breakfast. Legend has it that Walt Disney used to sit at a table here while he designed Disneyland. Sure, it tends to fill up with tourists by the busload, but it’s still a fun place to check out.
Abbot Kinney Boulevard
For hip, eclectic finds like vintage clothing and local art, head to Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice.
Melrose Avenue
Melrose Avenue is the place to find avant-garde fashions, kitschy gifts, home accessories, and pop art. Try Wasteland for second-hand vintage and designer clothes, or Thanks for the Memories for art deco design pieces. Celebrities are common on Melrose Avenue; for the best chance of spotting one, come during a busy Saturday and grab an outdoor table at one of the coffee shops or restaurants.
Montana Avenue
For breezy, upscale affluence, head to Santa Monica’s Montana Avenue. Unique boutiques and galleries brim with designer fashions and home furnishings; when you’re ready for a break, you can take a yoga class or visit the spa.
The Grove
Looking like an idealized small town, The Grove is an alfresco Los Angeles mall surrounding a beautifully landscaped grassy area with a fountain that dances to music on the hour. For a slow-paced tour of the stores, catch the free electric trolley that recalls a more ornate era. Parking is usually plentiful but can be tricky if you come on Friday or Saturday nights.
Citadel Outlets
Only in L.A. will you find a former factory that looks like an Assyrian palace and is now home to outlet shops for Calvin Klein, Converse, Levi’s, Guess, and more. For even better bargains at Citadel Outlets, look for an information booth and ask for any special promotions that are available.
