Majorca, off the coast of Spain, is one of the most popular of the Balearic Islands, as it offers both majestic beaches and a gorgeous mountain region. The island easily accessible and offers great amenities, without feeling over-developed.

Valldemosa

Valldemosa is situated in the Tramuntana mountainous region, about 10 miles from the center of Palma de Majorca. This hilltop town may be a bit touristy for some people, but for others it holds a certain charm. The Monastery, located within the medieval town of Valldemosa, is definitely worth a visit.

Puerto de Soller

Puerto de Soller is a beautiful port town located on the North Coast of the island. This beach is less crowded than many others in the area, and is served by a tram so there is no need for car rental. The Tramuntana Mountains provide a beautiful backdrop for your day at the beach.

Cuevas del Drach

These caves, known as the Caves of the Dragon, are worth the trip to Porto Cristo. The caves are easily accessible from the road, but be certain to make the approach from Porto Cristo, and then simply follow the signs. Once inside, you are really in for a treat! The one-hour guided excursion ends with a mini Mozart concert.

Fornalutx

Fornalutx is an ancient mountain town near Soller, and is estimated to be over 500 years old. Many visitors venture up to this picturesque mountain town after an afternoon spent on the beach in Soller. This beautiful village is known for its wonderful restaurants and bustling cafes. It is an ideal location for a late lunch or a cocktail, all enjoyed while soaking in the incredible view.

Monasterio de Lluc

Monasterio de Lluc is another must see ancient architectural wonder. Built in 1121, it is located high in the mountains in Majorca. The site is very popular with pilgrims who visit the “Maroneta Lady of Lluc”, and there are several pilgrimages scheduled throughout the year. It is also a great spot for hiking and exploring the ancient ruins.

Puerto Pollensa to Cala San Vincente

Another popular route for trekkers is from Puerto Pollensa to Cala San Vincente. This route is a pleasant hour long stroll through the picturesque countryside. While not overly rigorous, be sure to wear sneakers rather than beach shoes or flip flops! The path can be found just above the Pollensa train station, and please note that the “No Entry” signs apply only to motorized vehicles.
