Henry Ford

Detroit may be the Motor City, but Henry Ford’s home town is Dearborn, Michigan. Today, the Ford Homes Historic District maintains a distinctive flavor that it proudly shares through ongoing house walkthroughs and neighborhood festivals. Visitors to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village area can easily make a brief side trip through the Ford Homes Historic District. The main entrance to the museum itself is built in homage to Philadelphia’s Georgian-style Independence Hall.

Waterfront

Little Sable Lighthouse is one of the oldest brick lighthouses on the Great Lakes, and one of the pretties. This lonely tower stands 107 feet tall on the shore of Lake Michigan. If you enjoy the waterfront, you can also head to Grosse Ile. There, the Detroit River, connecting Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie, marks the boundary with neighboring Canada. It is also home to numerous islands.

Pewabic Pottery is where Mary Chase Perry started the Pewabic tile movement over a century ago. These ceramic tiles now decorate buildings and walls all over the world. The gallery and museum is a National Historic Landmark and is still dedicated to the ceramic arts.
