If you love fashion, you will love perusing the over 100 vendors and shops on Fashion Street in Mumbai. It is not a formal market, but a collection of shacks, huts and carts that sell overstocked exports, knock-off jeans, shoes, costume jewelry and anything else you might wish to add to your closet.

Location

The open air market can be found next to Cross Maidan and opposite Azad Maidan. Your taxi driver probably knows where it is, but understanding where it is on a map might save you a few minutes and dollars while the cabbie “finds” your destination. It is open every day and is especially crowded after schools let out in the afternoon and early evening, as the youth of Mumbai love to wander the stalls in search of the next great look.

Please Haggle

The tradition of shopping in open air markets in India includes the fine art of haggling. While all the fashions will have signs with “fixed prices” hung on them, that’s just a starting point. Ask the proprietor to sell you the scarf, skirt or top for half the price. They will dramatically deny the possibility of that price. You can find a flaw in it, say it’s about to rain, or simply just come back with another price.  Enjoy yourself! It’s not considered rude to debate pricing. And you won’t believe the deals you can get.

Don’t Believe Brands

It is likely that you will find name brand knock-offs, so please don’t pay top rack price for anything!
