Murree Things to Do
A colonial era town on the border between Azad Kashmir and Punjab in Pakistan, Murree is exceedingly popular with Pakistani families and local visitors. Though ten years ago it was a rustic but charming out-of-the way place, its growing popularity has altered it drastically. It has quickly sprouted large hotels to handle the influx of visitors, so it is now not as clean or serene as it used to be.
Mountain Points
There are many scenic hikes in this area, some of which have chair lifts and small parks or shops to visit. Here are some of the more popular peaks and paths:
Kashmir Point offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and town. The Kashmir mountains are visible from here, hence the name Kashmir Point. There are two roads up the GPO towards Kashmir Point; each route offers its own unique view of Murree, so for great views both ways, take one route going and other coming back.
Pindi Point is one of the prime points to visit in Murree. There are chair lifts here that travel the 1.5 kilometers up or down the slope. You can relax and take it all in as zigzag roads and great pines pass below you, with mountains on the horizon. At the bottom, there is a coffee shop and children’s playground. There will also be many people offering to let you ride and take pictures with horses, but don’t do this until you have firmly fixed on a price.
Baander Point, or, Monkey Point, does indeed have monkeys. The Ayubia chair lifts drop you off not far from here. The monkeys, though wild, are fairly tame from lots of exposure to humans.
Shopping
Murree is not a big place for shopping, but Mall Road is the famous marketplace in the city. It is best to visit after sunset to see the lights, enjoy the atmosphere of the town, and eat authentic Pakistani food. Souvenir shops and other little stores are situated on the both sides of the road and most things are open until midnight.
