Tour Brugges with a Local

Various tours will allow you to see some of the areas off the beaten path within Brugges. This includes touring with a local where you will see town highlights as well as top restaurants for every meal of the day. In many instances, you will also travel northwest for the city of Ghent. This is a scenic Belgian city that is about twenty minutes away by train. The city has a lot of 15th century architecture and art, including The Lamb of God, a principal attraction.

Rent a Bicycle

If you rent a bicycle, you have the opportunity to follow some of the easy routes that are within the area. This includes visiting Sluis, which is part of the Netherlands, but on the border of Belgium. Many people call it a tacky town, but it has its charms and accepts both Dutch guldens and Belgium francs. There’s also the opportunity to ride into some of the other small towns.

Little Towns

Lissewege is a small village just outside of Brugge, with picturesque white houses. You can choose to drive or bike into the town. Damme is another little town with a harbor, and is great for an afternoon visit. Another way to get to Damme is by paddleboat, which provides some beautiful views while being able to travel down the canal.
