Train

If you’re head from Negombo you can take a train to Colombo fort. The cost is next to nothing and it’s safe. On to of this, you get an excellent view of the scenery and local life.

The tuk-tuk from Negombo to the train station costs about 200rps. Negombo railway station situated in the middle of the city and you can go to Colombo (down side) or Chilaw \ Puttalam (up side) by the train from here. You’ll find the train is usually cheaper and faster than other transport options.

Airport Trips

Silversands has a airport pick up for 1700rps from the airport and 1200 to the airport.

It’s easy to find a taxi at the airport, or there is a free shuttle to Averiwatte bus station. From there busses to Negombo and Colombo.

Bus

The main Bus Stop is at Greens Road, after passing the Negombo Railway Station. One-way fare to Colombo-Pettah is about SLR 41 by the Bus Number 240. You’ll find that the travel time is approximatley 1.5 hours and busses depart frequently. Keep in mind, Red is Government and White is Private, however the fare is same.  There is an Air Conditioned Mini Bus (Coaster) which cost SLR 75 and takes around 45 minutes in normal traffic.

Tuk Tuk

If you want to get around the parts of town that don’t have train or bus stops, another option is to take a Tuk Tuk. From the Airport to Negombo Beach Side it’ll cost about 500 Sri Lankan Rupee (you may need to bargain for this price) and travel time is around 15 minutes.
