The Carnival Destiny currently calls in four ports on its southern Caribbean voyages out of San Juan. The ship visits St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, and Aruba, spending two days at sea. But parent company Carnival has decided to shake things up with this itinerary. In January 2007, the Carnival Destiny will call at five ports, dropping Aruba and picking up Antigua and St. Lucia.
As reported in Travel Weekly (registration required), the reasons for this change are to save fuel and to freshen up an itinerary that hasn’t changed in five years. It’s a win-win situation, as Carnival can save some cash while giving past Destiny guests a reason to sail again, and cruisers can see more islands on their weeklong vacation.
The new itinerary isn’t for everyone, especially travelers who relish their days at sea. However, you shouldn’t worry about the schedule being too demanding. Most of these islands are known for their beaches, so you can laze about to your heart’s content.
