An early morning plane crash went unnoticed at Nashville International Airport for hours, reports CNN. The small plane, a single-engine Cessna apparently crashed and burst into flames sometime after 3am Tuesday, but no one raised any alarms until well after sunrise.
The pilot of another plane that was preparing to take-off noticed a piece of the wreckage, and alerted airport controllers. The downed flight was finally found, and the pilot (who was the only person on the plane) was discovered dead inside.
Authorities were at a loss to explain how a crash could go unnoticed at the large airport, where the control tower is staffed 24 hours a day. A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), stated that there was low visibility and fog overnight, but declined to answer questions about the incident, as it is currently under investigation.
