Date of Trip: June 2010
Took Amtrak from Pennsylvania Station in New York City to Boston, Massachusetts. We traveled by coach which was quite comfortable with plenty of leg room. The train trip took a little over four hours not that much longer than the Acela Express. Upon our arrival in Boston we took a taxi to the Provincetown Ferry. I understand one can take the Silver Line Subway two stops but my friend traveled with a cane and this was best. The fast ferry took ninety minutes. The North Truro shuttle runs about every half an hour. It took us to the Horizon Beach Resort on Cape Cod Bay in about ten minutes.
We stayed in a lovely one room condo consisting of a bedroom, small kitchen, dressing area and bathroom. Our room was close to the pool and the bay and it was only a hop, skip and jump to cool off. There was a lovely breeze outside and we could watch the trees sway and listen to the whisper of the leaves. Other times we could hear the waves rolling gently with the surf. It was a great place to read and play scrabble.
The shuttle is most convenient and runs through the summer months. We took it to North Truro to a market to get breakfast and lunch foods and to Provincetown to have dinner, shop and visit galleries. Commercial street is filled with galleries, eateries and all kinds of shops. One can find shops for souvenirs, jewelery, clothing, crafts and even bookstores for gays and lesbians. Its a fun and friendly town for everyone.
We ate at The Lobster Pot which was good but I would say overpriced. Beware of tourist traps. Another night we ate at Governor Bradford and my friend remarked on how good the cod was! On a third night a friend who runs The Third Eye, an astrology business took us on a tour of Truro and Wellfleet and we ate at Moby Dicks. I had a delicious salmon and my friend once again had cod. This was a reasonable and fun place to eat.
One can take tours and go whale watching and see the sand dunes. We took a trolley tour that took us out to the Cape Cod Seashore and through Provincetown. It was most informative and the tour guide was enthusiatic and interesting. I visited the Provincetown museum where they had an exhibit of Hoppers drawings that was excellent. For fun there are lots of clubs and street musicians. At the Governor Bradford we happened to chance on a karoke show with a wonderful MC and bridal parties to be really letting go. What fun! I highly recommend this show.
All in all it was a wonderful week and I highly recommend anyone to go and have a look for themselves.
