Norway – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Norway What to Pack

With majestic fiords, high mountains and crystal clean waters, this northern country is a popular tourist destination. If you are heading up here, make sure you bring plenty of warm clothing even in the summer.

Luggage

No matter where you’re headed in Norway, it’s best to bring along a luggage option that’s sturdy and water-resistant.

Bring Warm Clothing

Norway is cold all year long and even during summer, temperatures are much lower than you would think. You need to bring items that will keep you warm long-sleeved shirts, fleece pants, well-lined boots, and a hooded jacket. When visiting during the summer, bring multiple layers so you can put on extra clothing as needed. In Norway, it might be warm during the day, but temperatures will fall rapidly at night.

When Hiking

Hiking is very popular in Norway, so if you plan to do it make sure you’re properly prepared with the right equipment. Bring hiking boots with good traction and a waterproof backpack. It’s also a good idea to bring extra waterproof bags to keep your stuff dry or purchase a waterproof liner if your backpack is not already waterproof.

During the Winter

If you’re planning a trip during the winter, you should bring lined gloves and a warm hat. Rain is common year round so also bring a sturdy umbrella and a rain coat. A pair of woolen socks and wool hat for wicking away moisture, as well as a thermal scarf are necessities. You should also bring sunscreen as the sun can be quite intense across the snow.

Traveling on a Budget

Norway has some of the highest prices in the world. Keep this mind if you have a tight budget. Try to bring necessities, so you don’t have to buy them in Norway. Consider packing lots of small snacks that you can bring out during the day rather than running to a more costly local supermarket. Same goes with toiletries, it’s better to pack your essentials from home.
