Best Time to Go to Philippines
Travel to the Philippines is ideal between November and early May, a time known as amihan — the dry season for most of the country. Wet season begins in June and peaks from July to September. However, in some regions — predominantly those along the eastern seaboard — the rainy season is between December and March. Although the wet season begins to taper off in September, typhoons are common through November. For the most temperate weather, try traveling in the winter months of January and February, and avoid visits in May, when temperatures can soar to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. If you don’t mind the chance of rain, traveling during the wet months can be a more affordable option. Easter week is one of the most popular times to travel to the Philippines — accommodations book early and are sold at a premium.
Philippines on a Budget
Thanks to a favorable exchange rate, traveling in the Philippines is inexpensive for most Westerners. Though accommodations at some luxury resorts can be on the pricey side, by shopping around, visitors can find affordable options. From traditional hotels and inns to vacation rentals, visitors can stay from well under $50 per night, especially if they choose to travel during the wet season, which is actually quite mild in some areas of the country. Since much of what is served in restaurants comes from local sources, dining is also affordable throughout the Philippines. Just be sure to steer clear of restaurants associated with larger resorts.
