Potsdam is the capital city of Brandenburg located along the border of Berlin. This culturally diverse city has lots of green space, amazing architecture and plenty of surrounding waterways. Getting about the area is fairly easy and there are several options to choose from.

Hop Aboard a Train

One of the most popular public transportation options is the train. You can travel from Potsdam to Berlin and everywhere in between quickly and easily. Trains run every 10 minutes so if you miss one another will be around shortly. Potsdam is an intercity destination so there are trains that leave to destinations all across the area to places like Munich and Magdeburg, which makes sightseeing possible. Fares are inexpensive. The train also runs from the Schonefeld airport, so you can hop aboard and get to your hotel easily.

Take a Tour on the Ferry

To tour the city from a different vantage point, the Potsdam Harbor is located near the center of town on the Havel River. There are several old steamships that provide day trips and excursions to several places along the waterway. Take a night trip to view the castles from the water and then stop by the El Puerto restaurant for a bite to eat after your trip.

Taking a Tour Bus

Many people cringe at the thoughts of taking a tour bus, but if you aren’t traveling far it is a very efficient means of getting from one area of town to the next. In the summer when it is extremely hot, the bus is a welcome option over pounding the pavement. They offer private day tours, so you can get in all of the major attractions while sitting.
