As many of my friends and family know, I never really allow myself to splurge when it comes to comfort—sale rack sweatpants at Kohl’s have been my shtick since infancy, and up until recently, I never saw the problem with that. My sweatpant style was baggy, raggedy, and never eye-catching.
I didn’t think athleisure (or couchleisure, for people like myself) clothing needed to look good, because who was ever going to see me? It took me until the current quarantine to understand the upside of a handsome comfy pant—because no matter the hour of the day, whether I’m lying around or running an essential errand, I am in sweats.
Although I say I don’t care what people think of me, I do. I’m human. I don’t like heading outside looking like a literal plastic bag, but I refuse to wear jeans right now. It just seems wrong. I noticed I was spending a lot less money overall since I’m always home and decided that if any time was the right time, it’s now. I’d finally switch it up a bit and buy a decent pair of cozy athletic pants that’ll last a lifetime—and that’s how I found the Stadium Joggers by Public Rec.
I’ve swooned over the jogger style from afar for a bit now, seeing them draping mannequins at the mall and covering celebrities in paparazzi photos, so I knew that was the style I was aiming for. Once I saw the Public Rec Stadium Joggers, I knew they were for me. They come in three different colors, but I opted for navy because I hope to wear them in the office in the future. If anyone asks, I’m going to lie and say they’re slacks. It’s a solid scheme in my eyes.
When the joggers arrived, I noticed that the material was nothing like any sweats I’ve owned before. They felt extremely breathable and slipped on like a glove, generously hugging my ankles with a roomier upper area. Overall, I felt much better than I did wearing my old ugly sweats.
I can’t say I’ve taken them off much, to be honest. Although I’ve done almost nothing in them aside from run to the liquor store and supermarket, I’m happy that these pants can work equally well in a casual setting, at home, and for a workout. When I finally get off my butt and use this quarantine to exercise a little bit, I’ll definitely opt for these instead of basketball shorts. But let’s hope the quarantine ends before I get bored enough to go on a run.
