Pulau Batam is a small island off of Singapore and is known as a great weekend getaway spot for people living and staying in Singapore. If you are going to head to Pulau Batam for a weekend getaway, here are some transportation tips to make getting there, and getting around while you are there, easier.

Ferry Boats

You should arrive at the Singapore’s harbor front about an hour earlier than your ferry leaves as you’ll have to clear customs and get your tickets. The boat ride to Pulau Batam takes roughly 45 minutes. Some ferries serve full meals if you are crossing during breakfast, lunch, or dinner times.

The main ferry terminal is located in Central Batam. The other ferry terminals are in Sekupang in the south and Nongsa in the North. The Batam Center ferry terminal is not large but since it is an International Port of Entry, there are immigration counters for people departing and arriving in Batam. Expect to pay a terminal fee when arriving in Batam.

Bus Tours

A bus tour is a great way to truly experience the island and see some of the sights you might otherwise miss. Buses are modern and fully air-conditioned. The buses typically stop at shopping centers so you can buy items clothes, accessories, handicrafts, and souvenirs. Most Batam Tours can be booked in advance at the Singapore Travel Agencies in Singapore.

Taxis

If you’re taking a taxi from your hotel/resort, check with the front desk about the rates. The taxis operate on fixed rates to get around and do not use meters. You should also ask the front desk about hiring a private driver who will pick you up and drop you off at prearranged times.
