Punta Cana Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Punta Cana Transportation

You have several options for getting around and to Punta Cana. Here’s what you need to know about your Punta Cana transportation options.

Punta Cana International Airport

Punta Cana International airport is the gateway of this all-inclusive mecca which is a mere 30 to 40 minutes from most resort hotels. Regular and charter airlines from North and South America and Europe fly here regularly. This airport design is different from the other airports in the countr with the roofs thatched with palm cana leaves. The airport has one international terminal and one domestic one.

Taxis in Punta Cana

Taxi rates are set by zone, therefore all taxi rates should be the same. If they are not, get a different taxi. The established rates are available in the Punta Cana airport. There are plenty of taxis available and you should be able to get one for around $25-$30 to the resorts.

Car Rentals

Car rentals are available, but keep in mind that the people in the Dominican drive like maniacs. Most are cruising around on mopeds that are in terrible shape. Local drivers pass without warning without using turn signals, while paying zero attention to road signs. If you do decide to drive, purchase the extra insurance because chances are high you will encounter some kind of accident. Renting a car in Punta Cana is easy, but very expensive. Most hotels will either have a car rental desk on-site or can arrange pick up service from one at the hotel.

Bus Transport- Fast and Courteous

Transport from Santo Domingo is a breeze with the Bavaro Express Company. The busses are new and comfortable and provide a Latin version of American action movies and detached views of the Dominican Republic countryside. If you are staying at the Four Points Sheraton,  guests can ask for a stop at the hotel itself since it is located right at the highway, but all other stops are away from the resorts so be sure to check the latest information on stops.

Resort Shuttles

Most resorts are expansive, but have on-site shuttles or trains to take you from one destination to the next. They are also available to take guests to connecting resorts.
