For fans of [% 9732 | | Cunard’s %] Queen Elizabeth 2, this week is bittersweet. As reported by the AP, the famous ship set sail Sunday on its last world cruise.
The ship departed from Southampton alongside Cunard’s newest ship, the Queen Victoria. The two will sail together to New York, and then the QE2 will continue on her last journey around the world.
In April, the ship will be refurbished and make its [% 2383087 | | new home %] in Dubai. The QE2 will end her days as a five-star hotel at the Palm Jumeirah, the world’s largest manmade island.
From what I’ve heard, the Queen Victoria more closely resembles a typical cruise ship than a classic oceanliner. While it’s clear Cunard’s newest ship can never replace the QE2, it’s nice to know that fans of the cruise line have several vacation choices—sail on the Queen Mary 2 or Queen Victoria or fly to Dubai to revisit an old friend.
