Milford Sound

Milford Sound is probably New Zealand’s most famous and spectacular place to see. The scenery is breathtaking there, where the mountains spring directly from the sea. They are covered by temperate rainforest and are the source of many waterfalls. The weather is not always kind, but even on cloudy days, the majesty of Milford Sound is inspiring. Boat rides in the area include a standard scenic cruise, an extended cruise, and even overnight cruises. Visitors are warned to bring insect repellant, as there are many places where the insects are numerous.

Adventuring

For the adventurous soul, there are a few things to do while in the region. The Kawarau Bridge Bungy is home to the original 43-meter Bungy Jump. It’s the world’s first and debatably most famous jump in the world. The bridge itself crosses over the Kawarau River.

Another adventure to experience is jet boating. These boats were originally designed to navigate the narrow and shallow rivers in the Queenstown area, such as the Shotover and Kawarau rivers. These jetboats scream down the small intimate, canyons around these rivers and achieve very high speeds.
