Watch Your Step and Always Have a Quarter

Ladies wearing high heeled shoes, be warned that most streets of the Old Town as well as Market Square are cobbled. The northern part of the Royal Way has been paved with flat asphalt sidewalks but watch your step in the other parts of the city.

Many establishments in Warsaw do not have free toilets. Even at restaurants where you are a paying customer you may still have to pay to use the toilet. The going rate is one Zloty (about 25 cents US).

Pickpockets

Bus number 175 is a straight shot to the center from the airport. It is also carrying thieves. This route is the most dangerous in Warsaw (for the safety of your luggage). Keep your money in your front pockets and watch your luggage.

Taxi Scams

There are reliable taxi firms at the airport. Do not get a taxi from the curb. There is a Taxi Mafia that will charge you 2 and 3 times more than the actual cost of your transportation. Ask employees of hotel’s and restaurant’s to call a taxi for you. Write down the name of the company and the number.  Only get into the assigned taxi to avoid being overcharged.

Praga

The northern part of the Praga district, especially at night, is very unsafe for tourists. It is considered to be the poorest and the most problematic area as far as criminal activity.
