Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia: One of the World’s Best Photo Ops

The world’s largest salt flat makes for some of the world’s coolest pictures. The seemingly endless empty space, as well as light reflecting off the flats, make it look like there’s nothing separating the sky and the ground.

Go during the wet season (between December and March) in order to see the mirror-like surface at its best. There’s not much else around besides the beauty of the salt flats—and that’s the point. You won’t see many other people (except other tourists) but if you come at the right time of year, you may see the pink flamingos that live at Salar de Uyuni.

Book a driving tour to get out to the flats, and be prepared to spend lots of time in the car making your way across the desert to the isolated salt flats.

Where Is it? Bolivia. Fly to La Paz’s El Alto International Airport (check prices) and take a 12-hour bus ride or short domestic flight to Uyuni (check prices).

Where to Stay? Continue the theme with a stay at the Hotel Luna Salada, which is made entirely out of salt!

Who’s it for? Photographers, models, adventure travelers.
