Well, it’s just what I [% 2368341 | | hoped would happen %]: Skybus, after a successful inaugural week, has added several new routes. Beginning in mid-July, Skybus will start flying from Columbus to San Diego; Westover Metropolitan Airport in Chicopee, Massachusetts (Hartford/Springfield area); and St. Augustine, Florida (Jacksonville/Daytona Beach area). Additionally, Skybus is adding a second daily nonstop flight to Ft. Lauderdale, also beginning in mid-July. At least 10 seats on each flight will be available for the low price of $10.
According to Skybus CEO Bill Diffenderffer, customer demand has exceeded initial predictions, and the new routes are a result of that success. The airline plans to add even more routes as it acquires new planes and crew.
And given the positive feedback from customers thus far, I’m increasingly optimistic that Skybus just might challenge the airline industry to rethink what works—and that is absolutely a good thing.
