Sorrento is a quaint town in the south of Italy that overlooks the Bay of Naples. It is an incredibly popular tourist destination, and has the taxis, trains, and the transportation network needed to support the number of visitors who arrive there.

Ferries

There are many ferry companies plying the Sorrento-to-Capri Route, as well as other routes that connect Sorrento to other parts of the country. There are different kinds of ships, ranging from high speed catamarans and hydrofoils to regular, large ferries, that sail these waters. One of the ferry companies operating in the area is Gescab, which operates along the Marina Piccola Area. This company operates daily Sorrento to Capri Ferry services starting from seven in the morning. The price you pay depends on the type of ferry you take, with hydrofoil rides costing more than a traditional, large ferry trip.

Taxis

Traveling in the town of Sorrento itself can be done in a number of ways, including taxi. There are two taxi stands in Sorrento Center. The first is located along Piazza Tasso at the Intersection of Corsi Italia and Viale Enrico Caruso. The second taxi stand is along the Corso Italia beside Piazza Angelina Lauro. This stand is conveniently located near the Sorrento Train Station of the Circumvesuviana.

Be warned that the taxi rates here can be expensive. The fare is computed on the distance travelled and not on the number of passengers. The larger your group, the better you’ll pay individually for the trip.

Buses

Buses are a popular way of getting around the city. You can take a bus from the airport into Naples and then catch the Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Garibaldi station. This is the cheapest way to get to Sorrento from the Naples airport. You can board this bus from just outside the Arrivals Terminal at the airport. A one-way trip costs 10 euros, and the ride is quite comfortable. The buses have been built with upholstered seats and a hold for luggage. They stop at various places along the way and come to a stop just outside Sorrento’s Circumvesuviana station. If you travel during the daytime, you’ll have superb views of the Bay of Naples and of the various sights along the route.

Tourists can also take the large tour buses that drive around the city. These are equipped with free Wi-Fi service for tour guests. The buses have a two aisle, four seat configurations, allowing for up 55 people to board. The tours will takes you up to Parcheggio Achille Lauro, allow you some time to wak around, and then return you to Sorrento.
