Shopping in Stuttgart is easy : Small shops and large department stores carry everything from sherry to shoes. Find wide plazas and ample opportunities to relax at parks and cafes with local ambiance.
Where to Shop in Stuttgart
The main shopping drag, Königstrasse, has all the major German and European brands. The Klett-Passage, an underground shopping arcade between Königstrasse and the central station, has shops that offer cheap, practical wares to commuters in a hurry, and most stay open until 9:00 p.m. on weekdays.
The Bohnenviertel has some of the most beautiful and most interesting shops hidden away in the old part of Stuttgart. Tranquil or fashionable, cosmopolitan or Swabian, shoppers will find Stuttgart in all its diversity in this part of the city. Along Calwer Strasse, behind the facades of pretty gabled houses and beautiful half-timbered buildings, exquisite luxury shops are an ideal setting for a casual stroll.
Eberhardstrasse, with its elegant shops, leads into the Karls-Passage of the Breuninger department store. Near the Rathaus, Breuninger is the biggest department store in Stuttgart, with several places where you can stop for a cup of coffee. The nicest cafe is on the ground floor where you can listen to live music while you relax.
Schwaben Galerie is a new shopping complex in Stuttgart Vaihingen, but if you are coming from elsewhere it is recommended to take public transportation as parking in the center is expensive.
What to Buy in Stuttgart
While you’ll have access to top brands, don’t miss items local to Stuttgart such as the pretzels – there is nothing else like them in the rest of the world.
Visit Merz and Benzing in the Markthalle for gifts or just to get inspiration for home decor. Right at the entrance they also have a flower shop with some of the most beautiful bouquets in Stuttgart.
How to Find Bargains in Stuttgart
Bargains galore can be found at the Saturday morning flea market on the Karlsplatz, between the old castle and the new palace, where clothes, books, furniture, household items, art, and just about anything else are likely to turn up. The SI-Centrum entertainment complex, while not cheap, provides excellent value with its options and ambiance.
