This seaside Filipino municipality is popular for many reasons including the fact that offers pristine beaches and wonderful diving sites with lots of shipwrecks and coral islands. Traveling to Subic and around the region is relatively simple because it has many annual visitors.
Subic Transportation
Getting to Subic is fairly easy. You can take a car, a boat or pick up a bus. Getting around the city is even easier. You’ll find many public buses and well kept highways. Some hotels even offer a free shuttle service you can use to head for the beaches or visit the duty free shops.
From the Airport
Subic has an international airport but many travelers choose larger airports like the one in Manila as there are better connections to the rest of the region. Many visitors will first arrive at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila before they head out to Subic. From the airport, a passenger can then choose to rent a car in Manila or take a bus. Buses run from the airport at roughly one hour intervals and offer space for luggage and air-conditioning. You can also take a small charter flight but this can be more expensive than coming here by car or bus.
By Car and Bus
Subic makes a popular trip for many city dwellers for a short vacation. As a result, the regional government aims to make it easy to get there fast. If want to come here from Manila or Tarlac, you can take the SCTEX or the Subic, Clark, Tarlac Expressway. The expressway is clean, well kept but it has some minor tolls so make sure you have enough coins in the car before you begin the drive. It will bring you to Subic in a few hours. There’s an old highway as well. It’s cheaper but gets very crowed during rush hours. You can also get here by boat or by bus. Public buses come many major urban centers as well as the airport. Look for the Victory Liner Bus. Make sure it’s headed for the expressway before you board. You can get a ticket from the ticket counter with an assigned seat. Grabbing a seat on a van is something many locals choose, particularly if you have a larger party and need lots of seating.
Free Shuttle Buses
If you plan to hit the local mall, you’re in luck. There’s a free shuttle bus service for visitors. The Royal Subic Mall is a popular destination in the heart of town. The owner has a public service that will bring you to the mall from many places. Look for a white bus with bright yellow and blue stripes on the lower bottom sides. It will say Free Shuttle for Royal Subic Mall Shoppers in front. Taxis are another option. They’re cheap and go everywhere.
