Sun Everywhere

The sun in Cancun is harsher than the summer sun that most people from the Northern United States are used to. You can even get sunburned in the shade because the sun can reflect off of the white sand or crystal clear waters. This means that it’s important to apply sunscreen at all times, especially if you burn easily.

Applying Sunscreen

Apply sunscreen regularly. If you’re spending time outside, you may even want to apply it as frequently as every hour, since it’s common for the sunscreen to wash off in the water or with sweat. Lotion sunscreens tend to work better than the spray versions, and you get a bit more bang for your buck. You’ll also need to put it all over your body. While most people remember to put it on the face, arms, legs, chest, and back, don’t forget to apply on some of the less common areas, such as your eyelids, the bottoms of your feet, and the part in your hair. SPF-containing lip balms are a good idea as well.

Biodegradable or Chemical-Free Sunscreen

Some swimming areas in the region forbid you from using sunscreen that contains chemicals, and the chemical-free versions they sell on-site have inflated prices. Bring some along with you to avoid paying extra. Brands that are listed as chemical-free or biodegradable should be accepted at these places.
