Tell the TSA How You Feel About Body Scanners

Ever wanted to tell the TSA exactly how you feel about the full-body scanners? (And no, complaining to the powerless TSA agents who screen you before every flight doesn’t count.) Well, a U.S. Court is now forcing the TSA to listen to the public—so here’s your chance to make your voice heard.

The LA Times reports that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, ruled in response to a lawsuit, that the TSA can legally use the full-body scanners as a primary method of screening passengers. However, the court ruled that the TSA must give the public a 90-day comment period to voice opinions about the security measure, which it failed to do when the scanners were introduced.

The TSA doesn’t actually have to take any action regarding the comments, but it may make you feel better to vent.

The comment window applies to the Rapiscan backscatter scanners, most of which have been phased out and replaced by the less-invasive Automated Target Recognition (ATR) scanners, which show cartoon-like outlines rather than graphic images of passengers. (All of the Rapiscan scanners are expected to be removed from airports by this summer.)
