Bedbugs have long been a concern for travelers staying in hotels, but did you know that you can catch the nasty creatures from rental cars as well? If you do happen to pick up a loaner vehicle that’s infested, don’t do what one Long Island man reportedly did to try and get rid of it—by dousing the car in alcohol.
According to the NY Daily News, Scott Kemery discovered bedbugs in his rental car, and asked a friend for advice on how to get rid of them. The friend supposedly told Kemery that he could kill the bugs by soaking the car in alcohol, so he did. Unfortunately for Kemery, he then proceeded to light up a cigarette inside the (now highly flammable) vehicle, which then ignited, burning Kemery and the car.
Kemery survived, but the rental and the bedbugs did not.
