Cloudcroft is a village in New Mexico that is tucked inside of the Lincoln National forest. Despite a small population, there are plenty of things to do when in the area.

Visit Burro Avenue

Burro Avenue is the name of the street where most people do their shopping in Cloudcroft. It is located opposite of James Canyon Road and is where you’re likely to spend most of your time when in town. There are trading posts, stores that sell second-hand items, restaurants, and real-estate businesses. The Cloudcroft Hotel is located along this avenue, and visitors will find a pavilion that sells souvenirs inside. Burro has been a part of the town since the 1880’s, when Cloudcroft was a main stop for the Alamagordo and Sacramento Railroad.

Find the History Buildings

The Cloudcroft Hotel was established in 1935 and is located on historic Burro Street. The lobby has a pressed-tin-type roof popular for upscale establishments of that time period. The seven rooms have a rustic Western look and cost from $70 to $110 per night. Visitors will also want to stop by the First Baptist Church, which was established in 1891 and is also located at the west end of Burro Street. Like most of the buildings in this part of Cloudcroft, it is a standing wooden structure constructed from the trees in the area. One final historical building to visit is The Lodge. It is an amazing destination that houses a spa, golf course, fine restaurant, and some accommodations.
