Exploring and enjoying the great outdoors is one of the main things to do in Collingwood, Ontario, but there are a number of other things to see as well.

Millennium Overlook Park

Overlooking the beautiful Georgian Bay, Millennium Overlook Park is a must see. You can go for a nice walk. Or there are also some benches where you can just sit and relax to enjoy the view of the sailboats filling their sails as they make their way out of the historic Collingwood Harbour.

Scenic Caves

The Scenic Caves are definitely worth the drive up the winding hills of Collingwood, Ontario to the majestic Blue Mountains. There are tales associated with these caves that date back to 1636. Have fun exploring the paths, caves, and crevices that are found at Scenic Caves. Easy to make a full day out of it, but two to three hours will give you a good understanding and appreciation for the area. Overall, this is a nice place to spend a day. Besides the caves, you also get to see the longest bridge in Ontario and you can relax by the pond while the kids play in the huge playground.

Adventurous Fun

Connected to the Scenic Caves, if it is a thrill seeking adventure you want during your visit to Collingwood, Guided Eco Adventure Tour might just be for you.

• The Suspension Bridge – Ontario’s longest at 126 meters long. It is 25 meters above the valley and streams, and is 300 meters above the Georgian Bay.
• Treetop Walking – A two-hour walking along suspension cables and bridges between treetops is definitely for the brave.
• Thunderbird Zipline – This attraction was completed in July 2012 and is 2,550 feet long. It is advertised as Canada’s longest twin zip line.

There are lots of other activities here including nature trails, gemstone mining, mini golf, trout pond and picnic areas. Some of these are not open year-round, check to see which ones are year-round or seasonal. Hiking boots or shoes are a must!

Other Places to Visit

The Downtown Collingwood Business Improvement Area is an organization of more than 300 business and property owners who assist in the beautification, maintenance, promotion and economic development of Collingwood’s downtown area. With more than 255 shops and services, downtown is the “heart” of Collingwood. Additionally, the Farmers Market, which has a long history in the downtown area, has returned. It is open every Saturday morning from the May holiday weekend to Thanksgiving.

There are also a number of historic or interesting buildings to see that feature numerous examples of Victorian, Georgian, Greek Revival and Gothic styles in brick, stone and wood. Keep an eye out for The Old Town Hall (1890’s) and the Collingwood Federal Building (1914).

If you’re looking for something that includes an opportunity for lots of relaxation, the Blue Mountain Ski Resort is a great place to spend a weekend. You can rent a cottage and enjoy all the amenities and activities the resort offers. It’s a nice winter destination too.
