Daegu Things to Do
Surrounded by incredible nature views and thick with culture, Daegu is a beautiful place for any adventurer to explore. If you’re headed that way soon, here are some things to do in Daegu, South Korea, that you wont want to pass up!
Kiemyung College
The local college in Daegu is Kiemyung College. It is rather new, and the buildings are very beautiful. The college is actually built into a hillside and at the top is the church – all very spectacular. On the campus there is a re-creation of an ancient school and village. It shows in exact detail how an old village and school would look a few hundred years ago.
Tip: The official name is Keimyung Cultural Village. It is free and open to all.
Woobang Tower Land
For a bit of family fun go to Woobang Tower Land. There are many rides. The main attraction is the camel back, but there are activities for everyone. Woobang tower is inside the complex, and you’ll find an ice skating rink as well as a sky deck. The sky deck has a good view of a Daegu and if you are inclined to go a bit over the edge, you can with a type of bungee jump apparatus available.
Tip: At presstime, the cost for an adult was W 24000. This includes use of all the rides and entrance to the sky deck.
Gatbawi
Here you’ll find a truly beautiful sight. Gatbawi is a medicinal Buddha situated on a peak in Palgongsan Park. It was built in the 7th century and is most noted for the flat rock on its head. The panoramic view from the top is absolutely stunning. Legend has it that the Buddha will grant you one wish, so choose wisely. The climb up is 2 kilometres from the village and takes about 45 minutes.
Tip: All the way up there are stalls selling traditional snacks and entrance is free.
Donghwasa Temple
Donghwasa was found in the 5th century. It has since been rebuilt many times. During the Japanese invasion it was used by the monks as a headquarters. During Chuseok the main temple grounds are busy with children playing traditional games. It is also decorated with many colorful lanterns.
Tip: At presstime, cost was W 2500. Free if you come in from the top of Palgongsan.
