Klang Things to Do
Whether you’re spending a few days in Klang, Malaysia or just using it as a stop over, there are plenty of activities to take in. Here are a few of them.
Fishing Village Off Port Klang
The fishing village is a short boat ride out of Klang. This fishing village will provide an interesting look into the life of a Malaysian fisherman. Most of the fish caught by these individuals are sold locally in markets. The fishermen use traditional methods that have been used for thousands of years, relying on nets and arm strength to catch fish. Of course, you can also grab some fresh fish here for a tasty meal.
Ketam Island
The island is located about 10 kilometers west of Klang. Take the high-speed ferry, and you’ll be there in no time. The island is interesting because nearly every structure is built on stilts. At high tide, the majority of the island falls under water. There are no real roads on the island and most travel is done by foot or bicycle along boardwalks. There are about 20 seafood restaurants here, all of which serve fresh off the boat fish. You can also find excellent bird watching on the island. The ferry provider can point you in the best direction for a possible bird-watching tour.
Aircraft Carrier
There typically is at least one aircraft carrier in port throughout the year. The Klang port is a major port and allows for easy access to the rest of the region. If there isn’t an aircraft carrier, you’ll probably see at least one large US Navy vessel here. You won’t be allowed on, but just seeing it in person will be impressive.
FGS Dong Zen Monastery
In terms of religion, lang is split, with a large Muslim population as well as a large Buddhist population. The FGS Dong Zen Monastery offers a peaceful look into the life of a Buddhist monk. The monastery is located between Klang and the town of Banting. If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful few hours, stop by for a visit.
