Nagcarlan Things To Do
Nagcarlan is a city in the Philippines, southeast of Manila. Here, tourists can hike through lush forests, sample the local cuisine, and explore an underground cemetery.
Hike
Nagcarlan is located in a valley, between two mountains, Mt. Banahaw and Mt. Cristobal. As a result, Nagcarlan is a great place to hike. The trails are blanketed by forest and flowers, and they will lead you to breathtaking waterfalls, lakes, and streams. Bunga Falls is a well-known tourist attraction. Locals used to jump off the falls into the waters below to test their courage. Now, it’s a common gathering place for people who want to witness the full-extent of natural beauty that Nagcarlan has to offer.
Eat
While in Nagcarlan, eat! The locals know how to cook well, and there are plenty of renowned restaurants scattered throughout the city. Some of the locals’ favorite dishes include tapsilog, a mixture of cured beef and fried rice, topped with an egg. If that doesn’t sound appealing, try chicken-pork adobo, a spicy concoction of diced pork and chicken marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, laurel leaves, peppercorn, and sugar. Don’t be afraid, leave your worries at home and sample the cuisine while in Nagcarlan.
Visit the Underground Cemetery
If you’re looking for a unique, once-in-a lifetime experience, head to Narcarlan’s underground cemetery. On the list of National Historic Landmarks, the cemetery is well worth a visit. Designed by Franciscan Friars in 1845, its a glimpse into India’s colonial past. For a small fee, you can climb underground and explore a maze of crypts and tunnels. At the turn of the 20th century, the cemetery served as a meeting place for Revolutionaries. Decades later, it was a hideout for guerilla fighters during World War II. While you may hesitate to add this to your list of things to do, give it a shot. You’ll find it difficult not to be impressed by the style, mystique, and history of the Nagcarlan Underground Cemetery.
