Uzun Göl (The Long Lake)

Uzun Gol is actually located just outside of Trabzon, but close enough that this is a place that any traveler who wants to say they saw the sights, should check out. The lake is one of the longest in the area and is deep enough to take a dip. There are also little chateaus and places to see and stay around the area. There’s nothing quite like spending the night in this scenic spot and watching the sun come up over the lake.

The Sumela Monastery

This is likely the number one tourist destination for those who choose to go to Grabzon. The facility was a Greek Orthodox ministry that has stood for centuries. It was first built in 346 AD and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. One of the reasons this place is now safe for tourists is despite the fact that the monastery fell into ruin from time to time, there was always a ruler who understood the important of building it back up. These days, those who visit trabzon can take a look at the inspirational artwork that decorates the outside of the building, as well as go inside and see where the monks used to do their daily chores as well as go through their prayers. While the facility was forced to be abandoned in the 1930’s, Turkey has undertaken reconstruction that started in 2012.
