Tips on Avoiding Albufeira Tourist Traps

Albufeira Tourist Traps

Every city has its own tourist traps locals know to avoid. With these tips, you’ll be able to avoid such traps in Albufeira.

Fortune Tellers

When wandering around Albufeira you’ll find individuals (usually attractive females) sitting at a table, announcing to the world they are fortune tellers. T Locals do not go to these individuals sitting in alleys or along street corners. These are individuals who have simply set up shop in order to take your money for a few minutes of entertainment.

Ask About Bus Destinations

Taking the local bus system can help save money. It can also leave you in the middle of nowhere. Not all buses circle back around and perform the same route. Often times many will come to a final stop and need everyone to get off. You don’t want to be forced out in a part of town you did not want to end up in. Make sure you know where the bus is going and what the final destination is.

Montechorro Strip

This is a strip of restaurants and bars. All of these restaurants and bars inflate prices and cater almost exclusively to tourists. the best eating can be found elsewhere in the city and you’ll pay a fraction of the price. Many local hotels and tour guides will recommend the strip and while it may be worth checking out, know you will overspend on just about anything you buy here.

Watch Out For Time Shares

Just about as soon as you walk into the town you’ll have people trying to sell you timeshares. If you are not a Portugal local (or call anywhere in Europe home) a timeshare here is undesirable and extremely hard to pass off onto someone else. It is best to avoid these timeshare sellers and stick to hotels for future visits.
