While visiting Nha Trang, there are many things to see and do, but be careful not to get caught up in some common tourist traps.

Inflated Prices of Beach Vendors

If you want to bring fruit to the beach, stop at one of the shops or street stalls on the way. The fruit vendors on the beach are very expensive. Also, they are quick to cut up fruit as soon as you show any remote interest, then they’ll try to force you to buy it.

Excess ATM Fees

If you are using ATMs to draw cash when in Nha Trang, be aware that not all machines accept cards that have the chip. Also, the various banks have different charges for using their machines. Some even charge for the receipt showing the money you drew. Check the fees before inserting your card.

Rickshaw and Moped Drivers

The rickshaw drivers are more aggressive in Nha Trang than anywhere else in Vietnam and will often try to overcharge you. If you do use them, be sure it’s extremely clear what you agree to price-wise and stand your ground if they try to charge more. Riding around Vietnam on the back of a moped is a fun way to see the country, but Nha Trang drivers might rip you off. On arrival to your destination, they’ll often try to inflate the price up to five times the going rate. You can also just rent your own moped.

Monkey Island

In Nha Trang, people will frequently try to sell tours to Monkey Island. There is a monkey circus and visitors can feed the elephants and monkeys. Its takes an hour by boat to get there and then another hour back so you’re looking at three hours in total. Many agree that there are better things to do with your time and money. Always do a bit of research on the sights you want to see and make sure they’re worth your time and money before comitting to a tour.
