Tips on Fort Worth Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Fort Worth Warnings and Dangers

Overall, it is safe to move about Fort Worth with no worries. Here are some tips to avoid danger and stay safe.

Tornado Alley

Springtime in Texas brings a vast range of weather. It could be freezing, it could be hot. It could be wet, or it could be dry. Each year, tornados stampede through the aptly named Tornado Alley area. Fort Worth is in this stormy pathway. When the tornado sirens go off, it’s time to seek the best shelter available. If you’re in a building, go to the lowest level and stay away from windows and outside walls. When there is severe weather in this area, turn a radio on and seek shelter when warned. If you can, get off the road as soon as possible. If you are caught on the road, get out of your car and lie flat in a ditch. Like lightning, tornados take the tallest objects first.

Driving

In most parts of the country the far left lane is for passing. Not so here! You may encounter long-distance travelers going 40 miles an hour in the left lane. You might want to use the middle lane.

If you are traveling to Fort Worth, some locals suggest you avoid the exits along 287 South. The southeast side of Fort Worth is considered by some to be the most dangerous area in the city. Avoid the Mitchell Blvd, Rosedale Ave. or Vaughn Blvd exits. These areas are prone to heavy gang activity, and someone who looks like they don’t fit in the picture could potentially get into trouble.

If you’re driving around Fort Worth for any length of time, buy a map. Do not rely on Mapquest or GPS. Streets tend to change names pretty randomly and without much notice in Fort Worth.
