Grand Canyon Warnings and Dangers
One of the most beautiful natural wonders within the United States, the Grand Canyon offers magnificent views and plenty of outdoor activities for the adventurer at heart. Like most outdoor adventures, the Grand Canyon does not come without warnings and dangers. There are several things to keep in mind when exploring.
Take Care Along the West Rim
There are several areas along the canyon that do not have railings. When exploring the west rim, you can go right up to the edge and look over. Be careful though, you may experience feelings of vertigo when glancing into the gorge. Take care not to get too close or you can go right over.
Understand the Hiking Hazards
Even though there are many marked paths along the canyon, they still do not exist without dangers. There are many wild animals that may seem tame at first glance. Stay away from the animals and do not feed them. You may also encounter the pack mules when going up or down the trails. Hug the canyon walls and let the animals pass. The weather can change quickly in the canyon, so check the forecast and be prepared for both cold and hot extremes.
Consider the Elevation on the North Rim
If you have any sort of respiratory problems, you should take care along the north rim. The elevation is over 8,000 feet so the air is thin which may make it difficult for some to catch their breath.
