Honolulu Warnings and Dangers
Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii and a popular vacation destination. While the scenery is idyllic, Honolulu can be dangerous if you’re not careful.
Sunburns, Surfing, and Jellyfish
The sun in Hawaii is no joke. If you’re traveling to Honolulu, bring plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and flip-flops for the beach. Too many tourists haven’t heeded these warnings and have paid the price. Before you head to the beach, take the time to protect your skin. If you do, you’ll avoid being stuck in your room, applying aloe vera later.
Surfers can be found on nearly every beach in Honolulu. Visitors are encouraged to take a shot at the national sport, too, but do so with caution. The Pacific Ocean whips up massive waves, so don’t head out on a surfboard until you’re ready. Surfing lessons are easy to find and reasonably priced. Your best bet is to sign-up for a class, especially if your kids plan to join.
Crime
Unfortunately, crime does happen in Honolulu. Keep your personal belongings close and don’t leave your bags, purses, or wallets unattended at the beach. If you rent a car, make sure it’s locked and don’t leave any valuables in plain sight. Violent crime is rare, thankfully, but is more frequent away from the main tourist areas. Don’t venture into unfamiliar areas of the city, especially at night and especially alone. If you take the steps to protect yourself and your belongings, you’ll be fine.
