Tips on Isla de Tenerife Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Isla de Tenerife Warnings and Dangers

Isla de Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, and it’s famous for its exciting nightlife. Take a look at some of the warnings and dangers you should be aware of when traveling to Isla de Tenerife.

Weather

The weather in Isla de Tenerife can be cloudy, rainy, and windy at times, especially on the northern part of the island. Head to the south if you want more sun. You can hike in the mountainous areas to get above the clouds, but be warned that the weather can change quickly in this area. Although the temperatures are typically colder in higher elevations, on rare occasions it can warm up quickly, creating conditions that are conducive to flash fires.

Make sure that you bring plenty of sunscreen and use it liberally. Isla de Tenerife is not far from the equator, and the sun is strong there. Even if there are clouds, you can get badly burned from spending time outside without sun protection.

Driving and Parking

Expect to see as much traffic on the main roads as you would see in any busy city, especially on the south side of the island, where there is the most tourist traffic. Most tourists rent cars, so during the busy season, the roads are busy too. Allow yourself plenty of time to get to where you’re going, and be patient.

Many of the roads are one-way roads, and they often lack adequate signage. It’s easy to get lost, so make sure that you have good directions and a map. If you’re walking, use caution when crossing streets. Crosswalks may be located on corners or may have parked cars around them, obstructing your view. Check carefully to see that the way is clear before you go.

If you’re driving, make sure to only park your car in designated areas. Parking laws are strictly enforced and cars parked in no-parking zones will be towed.

Car Break-Ins

Break-ins have been known to happen in this area. If you leave cameras, cell phones, or other valuables on the passenger seats, someone may be tempted to break in. Don’t leave valuables in the car, or if you do, lock them in the trunk where they can’t be seen. Leave the glove box empty and open so that thieves can see that there’s nothing in there to steal.

Using caution when it comes to potential hazards will help ensure that you have a safe visit to Isla de Tenerife.
